Maja the dog makes two families happy

REVIEWSAugust 10, 2026

Since her separation at the beginning of the year, Katharina barely had the strength and time – between her job and two children – to give her dog Maja what she needs. Yet giving her away was never an option. Through dogsharing, the family found exactly the support they were missing – and Maja found two more people who have taken her into their hearts.

Dog friend Kirsten works full-time and cannot keep a dog of her own. Together with Finn, she now regularly spends time with Maja – a win-win situation of the kind only dogsharing can create.

Between children, work and a guilty conscience

After the separation, Katharina had to manage everyday life with two children on her own. Time for long walks with Maja became scarcer and scarcer – and the guilty conscience kept growing. “I simply didn’t have the strength and the time to give her what she needs,” she says. “But giving her away was never a perspective for me.”

Dog time without a dog of your own

Kirsten had long wished for a dog by her side. But because she works all day, a dog of her own would have had to go into daycare – not an option for her. “Then I thought: maybe there are people nearby on Hundelieb who need support with their dog – and we can help each other.”

A feel for good people

Maja is actually rather reserved around strangers. With Kirsten, things were different from the very beginning: she had no problem simply going along with her. By now, the dog gets completely excited whenever the doorbell rings – she wags her tail, sits down expectantly in front of the door, and is visibly disappointed when it turns out to be just the postman.

“It was a match”

It clicked for all three of them at the very first meeting – after all, your gut feeling has to be right when you entrust someone with your dog. “It was a match,” Kirsten and Katharina say today, laughing. For Katharina, it’s simple: “I am very grateful that this app exists.” And Kirsten recommends dogsharing to anyone in a similar situation.

Sometimes you don’t need a second dog or a boarding service – just people from the neighbourhood who help each other. That is exactly what Hundelieb is for.
